Solar Experiment

April 2, 2006

Moskaluk Pole Enclosure is Metal and has a rubber Seal.  It is big enough to put in a Via Board but it is extremely tight fit.  Currently I've installed a PC Engine Wrap Board.  The Enclosure has a backboard and the electronics is mounted to the backboard; no drilling is required.  The top of unit had POE and the cable comes from the top of the unit.  Ooops it should have come out of the bottom of the unit.  I've install a 12 dbi omni directional antenna directly to the case.  The case comes with pole clamps or this can mounted onto a wall.  It ideal for telephone or light pole mountings.

When the case is closed it can be locked via pad lock system and it also has screws to keep it fastened.  The case is roughly about  7 inches square.

Below you can see the energy cube that I've installed.  3 Solar Panels are running the Wrap board as well as charging the energy cube (Battery).  What is missing is installation of the solar panels to the pole and a all weather housing for the battery.

Currently the wrap board take about 30 hours to drain the battery.  The Solar panels take about 4 to 8 hours to recharge the battery fully.  Currently this unit is running total on solar panel and the battery is used for reserve during night and cloudy days.

My famous Wireless Mesh Stand is a fence pole set in a concrete desk footing.  I use wires to mount to ground for support. The solar panels will be mounted to the pole and balance accordingly.  As part of my experiment I have placed the solar panel flat to see if this is the best position to collect the solar rays.  As you can see from the shadows I will place the panels where there is no shadows and optimizes the sun.

Unfortunately this setup is not weather proof; however, I will temporarily seal and protect the energy cube, the connection to the Wireless MeshAP using Locustworld OS, seal the wire connection to the wrap board and lock down the pole from the wind. The solar panels and their connection as well as the enclosure is weather proof.
