Mini-ITX Intel board

Well I'm always looking for a good quality board at a fairly low price, to build my wireless network. I was approached by a distributor in China to test out the Mini-ITX Intel board with open source Locustworld. The board cost was one quarter of the price of a similar Via board.

The shipment came promptly with in a few days and since I had most of the parts to assemble it I start about a week later. The board is fanless 1 gig board with built in video USB and single PCI port similar to the Via. For the test I used a regular power supply, HD, wireless card etc.

I was able to easily install Locustworld' open source on to the hard drive but when I start the unit it froze and gave me a kernel panic.

So tried a number of times to reload the software and the same thing happened. I installed a Windows XP to see if everything was working. Well the mouse wasn't work but everything else seemed ok.

I am going to wait for a CF Flash disk to load the software. I have a funny feeling that the hard disk isn't working that well.

If I can get this board to boot up I would really like to see it performance.

  • What is the motherboard you are testing (and is it available yet)? I would love to find a less-expensive board than VIAs.
